The controversial baseball star was finally handed his punishment for using performance enhancing drugs — he’ll be kept off the field through 2014. However, Alex plans to appeal the ruling. Should he?

Major League Baseball finally handed down their suspension to Alex Rodriguez, banning him from the game for a total of 211 games! Yet, Alex is determined to fight his suspension in order to save his reputation.

Alex Rodriguez To Appeal Suspension — Baseball Player Out Through 2014

Since he is allowed to play during the appeal process, Alex made his return to the field on August 5 and said he was playing “prove to the Yankees and fans that I still have a shot to play the game at a high level. And I will do my best. I am fighting for my life. If I don’t defend myself, no one will.”

He added, “I am thrilled and humbled to put on this uniform again.”

As expected, Alex was booed by Chicago White Sox fans before hitting a bloop single in his first turn at bat during the August 5 game.

In an announcement on August 5, the MLB announced that A-Rod would be suspended for the rest of the 2013 season, and the entire 2014 season.

Alex’s “shot at the Hall of Fame is gone,” TJ Quinn, an investigative reporter with ESPN, told ABC News.

“His legacy is going to be shot. It was crumbling and today was just going to be one more blow and who knows if he can ever recover from it. He’s going to fight for his reputation, for his money and for any chance he’s got to stay in the field,” he said.

Fortunately for A-Rod, TJ said that the oft-publicized baseball player still has “his die hards. There are still the same people out there with the number 13 on their back and they will continue to support him to the end.”

MLB Steroids Scandal — 12 Other Players Suspended

Alex’s suspension comes along with suspensions for 12 other players who have also been implicated in the Biogenesis scandal and accused of taking performance enhancing drugs.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should A-Rod punishment be diminished?
