Desiree says it was ‘nice’ to see Brooks after he abandoned her, but all her feelings for him are in the past.
Mere hours after revealing that Chris Siegfried had won her hand in marriage, Desiree Hartsock appeared alongside her new fiancé Aug. 6 on Good Morning America – and unfortunately, Chris wasn’t the only guy Dez was grilled about. She and Chris were both forced to reveal their true feelings about Brooks Forester, who left Dez heartbroken in Antigua on the season’s penultimate episode, and it sounds like the former Bachelorette really has put him behind her.
In fact, she said she didn’t feel anything when he confronted her during the “After The Final Rose” special!
“It was good to see him,” Desiree admitted. “But I feel like that day in Antigua, we were able to be so honest, that that was the closure I needed. It was nice to see him.”
As for Chris, he said he and Brooks are still “friends,” but that doesn’t mean you should expect to see him at the wedding! And speaking of the wedding, Desiree and Chris said they’re still not sure whether they’ll be televising their highly anticipated nuptials.
How Chris Helped Heal Desiree’s Broken Heart
No matter how happy Desiree is now, there’s still a piece of her that has to be bitter about the way she was rejected by Brooks. She addressed that issue during her GMA interview, saying that Chris helped her work through the pain.
“I think [the proposal] helped in me really getting past the hurt from Brooks leaving and being able to see all that was here in Chris,” she said. “Sometimes I think you do have to go through the hard to get to the good.”
When asked if the outcome would have been different if Brooks hadn’t left her in Antigua, Desiree insisted she still would have picked Chris. She said “in that moment,” she saw herself being with Brooks forever, but that she sees things differently now.
