How horrific! Two young brothers were strangled to death by a python that escaped the pet store below their apartment! Noah and Connor Barth were found the next morning by a family friend and the pet store owner, who was watching the children overnight.
Connor Barth, 7, and his younger brother Noah, 5, were sleeping at the home of family friend Jean-Claude Savoie on August 5 when the python somehow got loose, strangling the brothers as they slept. Jean-Claude, who lives above the Reptile Ocean pet store that he owns in Campbellton in New Brunswick, Canada, was a friend of the boys’ mother, Mandy Trecartin, and was watching the young children overnight when the tragedy occurred.
Python Kills Young Boys: Brothers Strangled By Large Python As They Slept
Family friend Jean-Claude was shocked when he discovered the lifeless bodies of the boys he was babysitting when he awoke. He told the Mail Online:
They were sleeping. [But] they didn’t even open their eyes or nothing. I thought they were sleeping until I [saw] the hole in the ceiling. I turned the lights on and I [saw] this horrific scene.
“My body is in shock. I don’t know what to think,” Jean-Claude told the Global News in Canada. “I feel like they’re my kids.”
Snake Falls Through Ceiling After Climbing Through Ventilation System
Jean-Claude, who owned the snake for ten years, said that it was not usually handled by anyone in the store. He theorizes that the 100-pound, 14-foot African Rock Python somehow slithered into his upstairs apartment through the ventilation ducts, falling through the ceiling and into the room where the children slept.
Jean-Claude told the Mail Online:
[The snake] went through a ventilation system. I don’t understand how it did it. It went through the ceiling … and the snake fell into the living room from the ceiling.
The exact cause of death is still unknown, but the Global News reports that an autopsy is being done today to determine what exactly happened to the young boys. A criminal investigation is also underway, however, no charges have yet been brought.
How tragic! Our thoughts are with the young boys’ family.
