The contestants and judges were in tears during the hometown visits on the May 8 episode of ‘American Idol.’ In the most emotional episode, the top three battled for two spots in the finale and Candice saved the best performance for last. Who will move on?

The tears were flowing and not just from the contestants when they went home for the first time in four months! Judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson seemed like they have their mind made up for the top two. Do you agree with them, HollywoodLifers?

‘American Idol:’ The Top 3 Battle It Out

For round one, mentor Jimmy Iovine picked the songs and not all of them were great choices.

Kree Harrison started the night singing Pink‘s “Less Than Perfect.” “No matter what song you sing, you have a strong signature sound,” Keith said. Nicki wants her to wear flat boots so she can move around move. Randy wasn’t in love with the song — it had “no pizzazz.”

Candice Glover sang U2‘s “One.” Nicki said she rivaled Mary J. Blige‘s version of the song. Randy said the third time might be the charm for Candice. All of the judges loved the song choice. “We really felt it. Please believe you will realize your dreams,” Mariah raved.

Angie Miller sang Elton John‘s “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.” Randy was curious as to why she didn’t plan the piano but he really liked it. “I felt this was one of the best performances I’ve seen you do,” Mariah said. Nicki said it was a steller vocal but didn’t feel that emotionally connected.

Jimmy gave round one went to Angie.

Round 2 — The Judge’s Picks

After a fun and emotional look at Candice’s trip home, she sang Emeli Sande‘s “Next To Me.” Mariah said: “I can’t see anything but good things happening for you in your future.” Keith said she was “in the zone” and that it was beautiful. Nicki struggled to hold back tears as she said she was so proud of Candice. Nicki told Candice that she is the most confidence girl on that stage every night.

Angie was overwhelmed during her hometown visit to Beverly, near Boston, Mass. The judges picked Pink’s “Try” for Angie. Keith said she looked the most comfortable she ever has during an up-tempo song. Nicki said she is Miley Cyrus‘ long lost twin. Randy said the song fit her like a glove.

Kree’s hometown visit was extra emotional since she lost both parents at age 12 and 19. Kree sang the Rascal Flatts song “Here Comes Goodbye.” Nicki said: “I am so super proud of you. I’m so happy for you. This was one of your best performances to date. You felt every word.” Randy said it was the best top three on Idol — ever. Mariah said she was “overwhelmed with emotion” because Kree is so real. Keith was crying as he told her thank you for the performance.

Jimmy said Kree won the second round.

Round 3 — The Final Shot Before The Finale

For the Idol production picks, Angie sang Emeli Sande’s “Maybe” at the piano. “You sang your heart out. Tonight, you became a complete performer,” Randy raved. “You’re finding your groove Angie,” Keith said. “You’ve come full circle,” Nicki said.

Kree sang The Band Perry‘s “Better Dig Two.” Keith didn’t know if it felt right. Nicki said it wasn’t her comfort zone and she didn’t like that song for her. However, Nicki said she would be buying her record whenever she does leave the show.

Candice sang West Side Story‘s “Somewhere.” Mariah started crying immediately. All four judges gave her a standing ovation! “If you want to vote for Candice, call the number on your screen. If you don’t, call your doctor because you don’t have a pulse,” Keith said. Nicki said, “Four words — see you next week!”
