Spoiler alert: Stop reading if you don’t want to know who (probably) died on the ‘True Blood’ season finale.

Real talk: The Aug. 19 season finale of True Blood gave frustrated fans a lot to complain about. A season-long storyline was sloppily wrapped up in 20 minutes, Sookie (Anna Paquin) suddenly found herself in a committed relationship with very little build-up; and most controversially, a fan-favorite character appeared to have met the true death. I’m here to discuss that last shocker — and why it might not be as tragic as we all think.

Eric’s Death On ‘True Blood’

While it’s too soon to say whether or not Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) is definitely dead — he burst into flames, but he never actually dissolved into a beautiful puddle of Nordic goo — most fans assume we saw the last of him (and his flobbidy penis) on the season finale.

And even though it would be very easy to shake our fists at the heavens — aka showrunner Brian Buckner – I’d like to offer up an alternative point of view. Maybe this isn’t as bad as we’re all making it out to be. In fact, I dare say Eric Northman had the most perfect death of the series.

Not only was Eric’s death memorable — he’s the only character in the show’s history to go full-frontal — but it was also on his own terms. He wasn’t bested at the hands of a stronger opponent; it was his own sense of pride that did him in, his own false sense of immortality. And hasn’t Eric always been his own worst enemy all along? The only person capable of taking down Eric Northman was Eric Northman, and that’s exactly what happened.

Besides, let’s not pretend like we didn’t see this coming for months. From the moment the key art for the sixth season was released online, fans began speculating that Eric would meet the True Death before the end of the summer. And last week, Eric did say goodbye to Pam (Kristin Bauer Van Straten), the only other person he still had any emotional attachment to in the world.

It was a death Godric would have approved of, that’s for damn sure.

HollywoodLifers, how do you feel about Eric’s potential death? Do you think he could still be alive? Relive the epic scene below, then drop a comment with your next-day reactions.
