Dennis, best known for his role as Detective Joe Fontana on ‘Law & Order,’ passed away July 22.

Dennis Farina, the former Chicago cop turned Law & Order star died July 22 after reportedly suffering a blood clot in his lung.

‘Law & Order’ Star Dennis Farina Dies in Arizona

The actor passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz., after suffering from a blood clot in his lung, the AP reports. Dennis was 69 years old.

Before he played a detective on the hit crime show, Dennis served as a Chicago police officer for 18 years.

He starred in the 1980′s cult favorite show Crime Story and then on Law & Order from 2004 to 2006. He recently guest-starred on the hit show New Girl as Nick Miller’s (Jake Johnson) father. Dennis also appeared in numerous films including Saving Private Ryan, Get Shorty, and What Happens In Vegas.

Dennis is survived by his three sons, six grandchildren, and longtime partner Marianne Cahill. Our thoughts go out to Dennis’ family during this hard time.
