Kate and William’s little prince has finally arrived! As soon as the royal baby was delivered at St. Mary’s Hospital on July 22, a wood and gold easel was placed outside of Buckingham Palace announcing the birth!
After a long and highly-anticipated wait, Kate Middleton, 31, and Prince William finally welcomed their first child! Following a tradition started by Princess Diana, an official announcement was placed outside of Buckingham Palace immediately following the birth, which tells us all about the heir to the royal throne!
Official Royal Baby Birth Announcement Placed Outside Of Buckingham Palace
Nearly two weeks after her original due date, Kate finally gave birth on July 22 and the birth was officially announced on a bulletin that was placed on a beautiful wood and gold easel outside of Buckingham Palace.
The official bulletin announced the royal baby’s weight, time of birth, and perhaps the most anticipated piece of information — the gender!
As revealed on the announcement, the little prince, born at 4:24 p.m. GMT on July 22, weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces.
The notice was printed on a piece of creamy A4 size paper, adorned with the official Buckingham Palace heading and the signatures of the medical staff who helped deliver the newborn. To ensure a safe and speedy delivery of the announcement, it was driven in its own car, escorted by police, through the streets of London straight to Buckingham Palace.
Royal Birth Announcement Follows Family Tradition
In royal fashion, there is plenty of tradition surrounding the birth of the royal baby. Not only was the prince born in the same hospital wing as his daddy William, but the easel holding his birth announcement is the same one that was used to announce William’s birth in 1982. How cute!
“We wanted to retain some of the theater of the notice,” a Buckingham Palace official said of the decision to use the easel again after 31 years. “It is quite important to us that this is done properly and with the degree of dignity that the event demands. This is the birth of a child who will be in line to the throne. It is a rare occasion and it is nice to be able to do it with some historical precedence.”
